BBC Studios today announced a brand cooperation agreement with myVideo, an OTT (Over-The-Top) service owned by Taiwan Mobile, for two of its popular global channels. This three-year deal will see premium British drama channel, BBC First, launched in Taiwan for the very first time on 1 April, and pre-school children’s channel, CBeebies, also available across mobile, fixed-line, cable TV and broadband.
BBC First is the home of premium drama from BBC Studios and its launch in Taiwan will give viewers the opportunity to view a plethora of the most creative and compelling dramas in the world, including titles such as the latest seasons of the globally renowned dramas Doctor Who, Silent Witness, Call The Midwife, Death In Paradise, Shakespeare & Hathaway and new series Sanditon, Traces and The Mallorca Files.
The CBeebies brand is already popular in Taiwan, with programmes such as Hey Duggee, Go Jetters, Dinopaws, and Sarah and Duck receiving praise from parents and gaining lots of young fans. The signing of this agreement will enrich the existing children’s content offering with titles including Thomas & Friends, Teletubbies, Andy’s Adventures and English learning programme Yakka Dee, and will offer young audiences a destination for all of their favourite CBeebies programs, within the CBeebies channel.
Phil Hardman, SVP Commercial Operations and Strategy, Asia at BBC Studios, said: “It’s exciting to be launching premium British drama channel BBC First in Taiwan for the first time and to be able to provide young fans with a destination for all their favourite kids programmes on CBeebies. With the support of our partner myVideo, we look forward to bringing some of the best dramas and children’s programmes in the world to Taiwan audiences in the way that they want to view them. “
Commenting on the brand cooperation, Daphne Lee, VP New Media Service at Taiwan Mobile said: “We are delighted to enhance our cooperation with BBC Studios. This agreement marks the biggest volume of BBC Studios content carried by Internet TV (Over-The-Top service) in Taiwan to date. Through the launch of these two channels, we are able to offer world-class programmes to meet the diversified needs of our subscribers, and reach out to more audience groups.”
BBC First will launch on 1 April on myVideo, while the CBeebies channel launched on myVideo in January this year.
